Plenary Session: You Count: The US Census – The US Census could mean extra seats in Congress for Arizona along with funding for our roads, schools, and infrastructure. Come learn the basics and how historically undercounted communities are taking on Census 2020.

Session 1: Make a Difference in the US Census – The US Census is a complicated undertaking. Come learn how new technology is enabling community groups to participate like never before. This is a full volunteer training by the Phoenix Complete Count Committee.

Session 1: Marketing and Messaging – Breaking Thru the Bubble for Your Cause –  In this session, we will learn how to talk about the issues that matter in ways that appeal to your audience’s deepest values. We will talk about why facts and figures aren’t enough to move conversations forward and discuss principles for developing values-based messaging, then take some time for hands-on practice and feedback.

Session 1: Parenting in Politics – Real discussion about the challenges of balancing work, life, parenting, and politics.

Session 2: Knock on the Door with Tongue Fu!® – This customized 1.5 hour interactive training will show you exactly how to communicate respectfully with family, friends, and neighbors – even in stressful, high-pressure situations – so they STAY family, friends, and neighbors. The premise of this program is that we are passionate about our beliefs and are at a loss on how to respond when others appear to be polar opposites of our belief system. You will appreciate the step-by-step recommendations that prescribe exactly what to say – and not to say – to motivate people to find solutions, not fault. You will enjoy Deedra Abboud’s real-life examples, laugh-out-loud humor, interactive exercises and specific steps on how to prevent conflicts and promote cooperation.

Session 2: Redistricting – Rigging vs Reforming – Learn what to expect in the 2020-21 redistricting process. Learn who the players might be, what you can do to engage and how this process will differ from past decades.

Session 2: Voter Registration Best Practices – Join the experts from Tomorrow We Vote, Inter-Tribal Council of Arizona and LUCHA for a workshop on voter registration best practices.

Session 3: Campaigning 101:  Running a People Powered Campaign – Learn about how to start and succeed using the most powerful resources available, People.  Panelists will share examples of successful campaigns. Descriptions of strategizing, planning, correcting trajectory and succeeding with many volunteers who are passionate for your cause.  Q&A will follow presentations.

Session 3: Preservation of Democracy in the 21st Century – Democracy for beginners … and the need to defend, we will lead a discussion on the dangers threatening our democracy. We citizens are all called to protect and defend it. A short presentation on the need to protect democracy, from authoritarian populism threats and the invasion of internet robots polarizing public opinion. Local dangers to democracy and popular participation. The need to make the voice of Arizonans count. The need to create opportunities as a way to defend democracy.

Session 3: Feeling Good as Hell: Preventing Burnout – Volunteering or working on a campaign can be physically and emotionally exhausting. Learn how to care for yourself, set boundaries, and avoid burnout.

Session 4: The Art of Organizing a Movement – Recruitment and retention are vital to any movement, be it on a campaign, initiative or day to day activism. Come to this workshop to learn proven techniques to recruit and retain members.
